Maseru, Lesotho Area - Week 35

Image
Elder Dos Santos Some crazy things went down this week! President Thompson asked us to find 2 new investigators a day. This led to some interesting experiences to say the least. First, we met some guys who are from Cameroon. They speak English and French. Also important, they have a drum set! Elder Moore from Maseru 1 plays drums, and I play a little bit so we jammed out. It is so cool to be able to say that I was in the middle of Lesotho, playing drums with some guys from Cameroon. Who can say that? Next there was the mystery of the 2 Davids. Last Sunday a guy named David came to church. We went to go teach him during the week, but it was difficult to find his house because there are no addresses here. We found the house and knocked on the door. Some people answered that only speak Sotho and we asked for David. They took us to another house and introduced us to a guy named David. Except he wasn't the David we were looking for. So we started teaching this David,

Elder Adams' family came to take him home! Not much to report on this week. Mo was confirmed, and we had a really nice  Sunday  at church. The Khubetsoana Branch will officially split on  July 2nd  and we will meet at  1pm . Should be interesting. We taught a lot of good people this week, and also weeded out people that aren't seriously. Such is the life of a missionary. I had this cool seshoeshoe shirt made by a lady who stays in Maseru. I gave her one of my white shirts and she sewed on this sesotho fabric. It was only R80, so pretty cheap for a cool shirt!  What else happened this week.. not much. We did service and helped build a pig pen. I found a cheap place to buys eggs. Also the new Prime Minister of Lesotho was elected. This week took forever!!! Hopefully things begin to pick up speed again. Much love! Elder LaHue

Elder LaHue, Mo, Elder Moore, Bro. Moima, Elder Thorkelson, and three children! I am staying in Maseru for 6 more weeks with Elder Hicks!! I am pumped! Yesterday we had Mo's baptism!! And man was it COLD. There is no heating in the chapel. We tried dumping boiling water into the baptismal font but it didn't work. When I stepped in the water the lower half of my body went numb. I thought that Mo would get hypothermia! Everything worked out for the best though and it was a special day in her life. Pleasure vs. Happiness: "The present is an age of pleasure-seeking, and men are losing their sanity in the mad rush for sensations that do but excite and disappoint. In this day of counterfeits, adulterations, and base imitations, the devil is busier than he has ever been in the course of human history, in the manufacture of pleasures, both old and new; and these he offers for sale in most attractive fashion, falsely labeled,  Happiness. “. . . Happiness incl

Elder Simomondo Another week in the books!! Not a whole lot has been happening lately. Just some normal teaching and a few missionary activities. This Sunday we will have a baptism! I have been teaching an 18 year old girl named Mo for the last few months. She lives with a woman that was baptized last transfer. So, we started teaching her. She has come a long way! Now she is reading the Book of Mormon everyday and has a testimony of it. We are excited for this Sunday!! We did a few hikes this week too. My friends Elder Adams and Elder Thorkelson are going home next week. Both great guys and excellent missionaries. I am going to miss them a lot and have loved being with Maseru with them. Lately I have been reading from "Jesus the Christ", the book of Acts, and the Old Testament. It is cool to see that God worked the same back then as he does today. The stories are really captivating, even though the Old Testament doesn't make a wh
