(Top Row): Elder & Sister Dransfield, President Johns, President & Sister Thompson, Elders Dos Santos, Hicks, Jeri, LaHue, Maughan, Groesbeck, Diehl (Bottom Row): Elders Russell, Williams, Takau, Moore, Christensen Lesotho Zone! Today marks a special day in the history of Lesotho..... I'm having a son!!! President Thompson called Sunday night and told me that I am staying and training. Elder Hicks is leaving which is sad, but we had a ton of fun together. This will most likely mean I will stay in Khubetsoana for a total of 7 and a half months, meaning I can be a legend here haha. I am feeling a mixed blend of emotions, including joy, suspense, and worry. Sleep has not been on my side the last 2 nights. I don't know who my son is, even his name, but we are going to work freaking hard. Also Elder Dos Santos is training, so I get a brother! There are 4 of us training in Lesotho, including Dos, Elder Moore (who is next door), Elder Maughan (who is in my ag...

Maseru, Lesotho Area - Week 38 RIP Brother Booi

Image
Rest in peace, Brother and Sister Booi. Sorry for the late email, yesterday was a public holiday so all the shops were closed. Last Monday was a sad day for us. We had an appointment with the Booi family, whose wedding we attended last month. Attached is a picture of them. We drove to their place but they weren't there and their phones were turned off. We found out the next morning that they both were killed in a car accident. I saw the picture and the whole front of the car was smashed in. Their funeral will be  on Saturday . Sister Booi is a member, and he was supposed to be baptized this Sunday. On the bright side they are both together, in a better place, and we want to get started on their temple work so their marriage can be sealed. Sister Rasheleng will be baptized  on Sunday ! I have been teaching her from the start, so it is special to me. She has an amazing memory! When we began teaching her, she explained 7 chapters in the Book of Mormon ...

Elders LaHue, Dos Santos, C. Christensen, Hicks * So my birthday is coming up in less then 2 months. I figured I'd ask now, since it takes a long time to mail things this side. But all I want for my birthday is written letters! I love getting mail and it is a joy to have them to read whenever I want as opposed to emailing for 2 hours a week. So if you would like to send me a letter you can give it to my mom and she can mail it. Or if that isn't an option you can email it to her at lahue5 (at) gmail (dot) com and then she can print and mail it with the other ones. Thanks!!! (Mama LaHue insert: Please have all letter to me by July 31st in order for them to reach Elder LaHue by his birthday. Or if you wish to send your own personal letter, mail it to the PO Box on the right side of this blog.) This week has been hectic. I was sick all week, but not to the point where I couldn't work so I went out anyway. We need new people to teach so we have bee...

Maseru, Lesotho Area - Week 36

2tah & friends jamming out in his tuck shop! Matthew 20: 1-16 "   For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man  that is  an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.   And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.   And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,   And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.   Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.   And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?   They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right,  that  shall ye receive.   So when even was come, the lord  of the vineya...

Maseru, Lesotho Area - Week 35

Elder Dos Santos Some crazy things went down this week! President Thompson asked us to find 2 new investigators a day. This led to some interesting experiences to say the least. First, we met some guys who are from Cameroon. They speak English and French. Also important, they have a drum set! Elder Moore from Maseru 1 plays drums, and I play a little bit so we jammed out. It is so cool to be able to say that I was in the middle of Lesotho, playing drums with some guys from Cameroon. Who can say that? Next there was the mystery of the 2 Davids. Last Sunday a guy named David came to church. We went to go teach him during the week, but it was difficult to find his house because there are no addresses here. We found the house and knocked on the door. Some people answered that only speak Sotho and we asked for David. They took us to another house and introduced us to a guy named David. Except he wasn't the David we were looking for. So we started teaching this David,...

Elder Adams' family came to take him home! Not much to report on this week. Mo was confirmed, and we had a really nice  Sunday  at church. The Khubetsoana Branch will officially split on  July 2nd  and we will meet at  1pm . Should be interesting. We taught a lot of good people this week, and also weeded out people that aren't seriously. Such is the life of a missionary. I had this cool seshoeshoe shirt made by a lady who stays in Maseru. I gave her one of my white shirts and she sewed on this sesotho fabric. It was only R80, so pretty cheap for a cool shirt!  What else happened this week.. not much. We did service and helped build a pig pen. I found a cheap place to buys eggs. Also the new Prime Minister of Lesotho was elected. This week took forever!!! Hopefully things begin to pick up speed again. Much love! Elder LaHue

Elder LaHue, Mo, Elder Moore, Bro. Moima, Elder Thorkelson, and three children! I am staying in Maseru for 6 more weeks with Elder Hicks!! I am pumped! Yesterday we had Mo's baptism!! And man was it COLD. There is no heating in the chapel. We tried dumping boiling water into the baptismal font but it didn't work. When I stepped in the water the lower half of my body went numb. I thought that Mo would get hypothermia! Everything worked out for the best though and it was a special day in her life. Pleasure vs. Happiness: "The present is an age of pleasure-seeking, and men are losing their sanity in the mad rush for sensations that do but excite and disappoint. In this day of counterfeits, adulterations, and base imitations, the devil is busier than he has ever been in the course of human history, in the manufacture of pleasures, both old and new; and these he offers for sale in most attractive fashion, falsely labeled,  Happiness. “. . . Happiness incl...
